  One Stop Shopping

The Camp Zama Outdoor Recreation Equipment Checkout Center provides services and programs to a community of approximately 8,000 military, DOD civilians, family members and military retirees. Outdoor Recreation Center provides checkout equipment, accessories and a well-trained staff to facilitate the use of the outdoor environment in a fun and positive manner.

The Camp Zama Outdoor Recreation Equipment Checkout Center is co-located with Local Tours in Building 719. Customers desiring are not only equipment rental inquiries, but also services such as tour information, transportation information, reservations, and other general information -a one stop shop concept.

  Participate in one our “Discover Lifetime Skills Programs:

Learn To Ski/Snowboard Day Trips will be scheduled for December through March. We will offer ski packages for beginners that includes rental package, lift ticket, instruction and transportation.

Take A Hike program which incorporates hiking excursions with special emphasis on preparation through physical training (Sports Office) and informative classes designed for the beginner hiker. The goal is to hike to the summit Japan's highest and most prestigious peak, Mt. Fuji, and receive a specially designed t-shirt. Upon completion customers will obtain improved health, achievement of their goals and gain confidence in their abilities.

Sea Kayak Excursions - Intro to Sea Kayaking clinics will be held at Dewey Pond and/or Zama Swimming Pool. After initial dry land/pool sessions participants will journey to the open ocean located at nearby Izu Peninsula where detailed training will be provided by professional instructors.

Rock Climbing/ Rappelling Trips, Cycling Tours, Discover Scuba, Beach Combing & Ocean Study Tours, Camping Basics - Seasonal accessories are available for purchase at the Outdoor Recreation Center.

Joint programming efforts with Youth Services will provide youth rental equipment, instruction and transportation for both winter and summer adventure programs geared for middle-school youth.  

Maps, information, referrals for outdoor activities and sightseeing are available 7 days a week.
